Performing a Test
The First Test - Visual Inspection
Once the software has been set up to your specific requirements, you can begin testing portable appliances. WinPATS testing works by executing a test command to the appliance tester. The test is determined by the chosen test category. Once the TnT has completed the test the results are relayed back to WinPATS software and the test is complete.
Please read the getting connected page before attempting a test. Make sure the TnT is in the main menu A screen before starting a test. If the unit is in a sub-menu the TnT will not respond.
TnT+M / TnP500 / Mkit Owners
It is important not to confuse WinPATS testing with the TnT memory unit functionality. With a TnT memory unit the equipment records are transferred to the appliance tester and then the tests are run independently from the computer. Then the equipment test records are transferred back to the WinPATS software.
If you own a TnT memory capable unit you will still be able to perform tests VIA the WinPATS software. If the TnT tester is running in memory mode (unit starts up to the new barcode / search barcode screen) then you will need to remove the keypad connection from the top of the tester and reset the power to the unit. Once the unit is displaying the main menu A screen then you can continue testing. It is only the WinPATS testing that requires the keypad to be removed. All uploading and downloading can be done from the new barcode screen. For more information on the TnT memory click here.
A visual test must be done before any other tests are carried out using any of the range of TnT appliance testers. In regard to the device under test (DUT) please ensure that:
- There is no damage or component defects to the accessories, plugs, outlet sockets or connectors
- There are no cracks/abrasions
- There are no exposed inner cores or conductors (flexible) and that the supply cords are not twisted or distorted
- Any fuse/overload protection components (if fitted) are checked
- All labels, markings and warning indicators (of the maximum load to be connected to the device) are legible and intact
- The insulation is not damaged in anyway i.e. melted, cuts, abrasions. There are no iron filings in the insulation. There is no insulation tape on the lead
- Any flexible cords/leads are anchored (glands and grommets intact)
- All covers/guards are in place and secure as intended by the supplier/manufacturer
- All safety devices and systems are in good working order i.e. latches and buttons
- No dust/dirt obstructs any exhausts or ventilation outlets
- All controls are working properly and are secure and aligned
Important: If Result is a fail
If a Device Under Test (DUT) fails any of the above, it should be deemed to have FAILED the Visual Test, and therefore no other tests need be performed. If this is the case the DUT should be tagged with a danger tag and removed from service. It is recommended by the manufacturer and distributor of this product that if a DUT has failed a test it SHOULD NOT BE RETURNED TO SERVICE. To do so would be considered unsafe!
WinPATS Testing
- Scan/type barcode into the barcode to SEARCH box and press Enter
- Click the Perform Test button or press F8 on the Equipment Details screen
- Perform a visual check before clicking Yes or pressing F12
- Testing will begin automatically, the test procedure will run through all tests that have been previously assigned during the set up process (this information depends on which test/s have been assigned to this item during the initial equipment set up).
If the barcode you have entered is does no exist in the database, you will be asked if you would like to ‘Add Equipment’. To enter new equipment into database Click Yes This will bring up the specific ‘Equipment details’ screen with a new barcode number. (Please refer to Equipment).
After the visual check is done the program will look for a connected TnT tester. If a tester is not found, will appear. This could be due to incorrectly configured ports. See General Options Tab for more information. If the program detects a TnT Tester, testing will automatically commence.
Should the DUT (DEVICE UNDER TEST) have several test types the Next button is displayed on the screen. If only one test type is allocated to the DUT (DEVICE UNDER TEST) then the Next & Skip keys are not displayed. The Skip key moves the test to the next test type in the list of tests set up for that particular DUT (DEVICE UNDER TEST). Alternatively you can press F7 which will perform the same function as clicking next. Pressing F3 or ticking the F3 box will enable all test to be performed sequentially after a 5 second interval.
If an emergency stop is required, click or hit the ESC key on your keyboard. This will disable the test in progress.
For TnT-el & TnT+ testers only
Before starting the test a safety warning indicator screen will appear. Should the yes button be pressed, the program will control the TnT+ tester and apply power to the DUT (DEVICE UNDER TEST).
CAUTION This test turns the appliance on and can cause an accident or injury if safety precautions are not taken.
A failed screen will appear if the DUT (DEVICE UNDER TEST) has failed one of the test parameters. The user has the option to continue and save or go on to next test function if there are multiple tests. The results will be stored as a failed test result, or retry the test as it may have been a testing error.
